Straight up, we are fans of public transport and use it wherever we can. It is cheaper, often faster, and you can do your own thing... sleep, read or annoy fellow travellers! We do recognise that this mode isn't for everyone isn't for everyone, and that in your particular area it may not be practical for you to use alternative modes. However, if you are lucky enough to have access then the tips below will help you save the most money.
Tip 1: Consider buses or trains as opposed to flying: While taking the bus or train is slower than flying it can literally save you hundreds of dollars. More importantly, you will also get to see more of your holiday destination and the surrounding country side.
Tip 2: Employer Public Transport Discounts: Many private employers and Government Departments offer discounts on public transport annual tickets. Check with your Human Resources Department or company policies to see if your organisation offers discounts.
Tip 3: Taxi's: Simple tip...don't be afraid to get out of a taxi if you are stuck in traffic. You will save money and the extra exercise will also be good for you.
Tip 4: Buy Public Transport Tickets in bulk: Buying in bulk (eg at least 10 tickets) is more economical than buying tickets one at a time.
Tip 5: Buy public transport tickets for the appropriate zone: Make sure you are paying only for the zone(s) you are using.
Tip 6: Travel during off peak: Off peak travel is cheaper than peak travel. If your travel plans are flexible, travel off peak instead of peak. Seniors are best placed to take advantage of this.
